Bastille is a System Hardening and Security implementation tool which includes the fundamentals on how to harden a *nix (a Linux or Unix based computer system), and perform a consistent implementation across system restarts.
Before starting with the installation of Bastille, we highly recommend
that the Administration Staff become intimately familiar with the
processes and operations of the server.
Ideally the implementator needs to have a good background in Systems
Administration, Networking, as well as a background in IP Security.
The Bastille application provides a generous implementation for improving
security on a variety of servers. It is without saying than most systems will
benefit from the default settings for the installation of Bastille.
Security is a balance between protecting the environment and being able to
use the service. (it is equally as easy to disconnect the servers from the network. While this makes them secure, they then become unusable).
We currently support the development efforts of Bastille, and provide
suggestions, updates, services, and Spam Filtering for the bastille-linux.org domain. The current release of Bastille is available for Linux at:
Bastille for Linux
Bastille for HP-UX.
Please be advised, that while Bastille is a good start for Systems Security,
the Day of the Zero Exploit is here, and due diligence is important to
improving security. Firewalls no longer are the complete answer for Internet
Security.
With more than 20 years of consulting experience, we are available to support the development, configuration and installation for your security needs.
